99 Turbo

Saab 99 Turbo

Launched in 1978, the 99 Turbo was a game-changer and cemented Saabs reputation as a pioneer in turbo charging technology. It was the first car to bring turbo charging to the masses in a practical, reliable and exciting package. The 2 litre 4 cylinder in-line engine was mated with a Garrett T3 turbocharger and produced an impressive 143bhp – transforming the 99’s performance whilst retaining Saabs signature features of safety and practicality. Distinctive design queues included the iconic turbo graphics and inca alloy wheels along with a front air dam and rear spoiler that pointed to its sporty intentions. Inside was driver – focused with further iconic features and colours, wrapped in Scandinavian comfort. As with the 96 and 99 before it, the 99 Turbo was a very capable rally car. It paved the way for future turbo charged models and began a legacy of innovation. It’s a symbol of Saab’s engineering prowess and has become a treasured classic.
