DRIVERS BRIEFING FOR THOSE TAKING PART IN THE HILL CLIMB SAABFEST – NON-COMPETITIVE HILL RUNS Sunday 28th JULY 2024 Please read this Drivers’ Briefing that every driver and passenger will receive prior to accessing the hill. In-person briefings are not held for these fun run days, as you should not be driving in an unsafe manner. The Hill will be available to walk before 9.30am if you are new to the hill and want to familiarise yourself. In order to gain access to the track, you must have signed on and applied for an RS Clubman license with Motorsport UK. You will not be allowed onto the hill if you have not completed these forms. Additionally your vehicle must be road legal and have insurance. Having read, understood, and agreed to comply with the venue regulations and any event organiser’s supplementary regulations we ask you to promptly comply with instructions and directions given by the organisers and representatives of Saab Owners Club at all times whilst attending the venue. In the interests of safety, the organisers (BOC) may exclude drivers from further participation in the activity if they think they are driving/riding recklessly or dangerously. GENERAL GUIDANCE Hill runs will commence at 10am on the day and will stop at 4pm with a break for lunch in the middle of the day. Please ensure your vehicle is fully road-legal, including MOT (if applicable) and taxed. PARKING You will be parked in accordance to the event organisers wishes. If you arrive before 10am, please use the main gate to enter. If you arrive after 10am, you will need to use the Lane Gate that is situated to the left of the main gate. (Gate team will direct you). LICENCES Drivers must possess a full driving licence as well as an RS Clubman’s licence. Anyone in the passenger seat aged 16 and above must also hold an RS Clubman’s Licence to be eligible to run up the hill. Note that we do have a capacity to register people for the RS Clubman’s licence on site but in order to reduce signing on time this should be organised beforehand by Hill Runners CHILDREN Children are permitted as passengers in vehicles as long as they are seated correctly in accordance with the Road Traffic Act. We do discourage very young children from taking part in this event as they are often unable to support their own neck in an accident. Children will also require and parent/guardians signature on the day. PADDOCK SAFETY Keep your paddock slot clean, tidy and free of hazards at all times. Wait in your paddock slot until directed by a paddock marshal to move your car. When moving in the paddock be aware of pedestrians, move slowly and keep your eyes and ears open for others around you. TYRE WARMING As this type of event is non-competitive, tyre warming is NOT permitted. If you do attempt to warm your tyres, the clerks will have the authority to stop your run and any future runs GENERAL SAFETY The track is 12 feet wide and consists of left and right turns and has a mixture of Armco and gravel traps. At the start line ONLY proceed up the hill on a green light. If you break down/spin on the hill stay inside your vehicle (unless there is a fire) and await marshals’ instructions as there may be other vehicles travelling on the hill. Arms and legs must be fully covered in open cars. Suitable footwear must be worn to drive (eg no flip flops/sandals/heels). No helmets or race suits allowed as this is a non competitive event dispensation may be awarded to those in cars without a windscreen. HILL FLAGS AND LIGHTS There is only one colour of flag / flashing light used at Prescott: Red. If you see a red flag or red flashing light, come to a controlled and safe stop and await marshals’ instructions. Do not proceed beyond the next marshals’ post unless instructed. The red light is situated at Pardon Corner. FINISH The finish line is denoted by a highly visible sign and chequered boards, flags and a solid white line. Once you have passed the finish line slow down safely. The top of the return road is a sharp left hand turn, cars with a poor turning lock/limited turning circle please keep right. RETURN ROAD The return road is a public right of way and therefore the speed limit is 10MPH, as you may come across walkers, dogs, cyclists and horses on your return to the paddock. We have CCTV on the return road and speed is monitored. Please keep the noise down on the return road as it is very close to our neighbours. LEAVING PRESCOTT No trailers in the paddock until the final run has been taken. Please be sensible about bringing your trailer into the paddock due to the amount of competitors, spectators and other persons that will still be on site. All event number stickers must be removed from your car before you leave the site onto the public road’ Ensure when driving through villages that the speed limits are adhered to and to that you are not “racing” or driving aggressively as you leave Prescott.
