We are returning to The Valley Hotel in Ironbridge for the last weekend of February 2020.
The format will be as at the previous weekends at this venue, which tends to take the form of ‘do as you please’ each day. We will supply some information on places in the area you may like to visit, but if spending time chatting, drinking coffee or anything else is more your kind of thing then feel free to do that. We do ask everyone to come together for dinner on the Friday and Saturday evenings at 7.30 pm.
Press Release - 2019 Saab Owners Club AGM
The Saab Owners Club AGM took place at the Fieldhead Hotel, Markfield Leicestershire, Saturday 19th October
Dr Os Reid as Chairman welcomed all to the meeting and introduced the directors before handing over to Iain Hodcroft who chaired the meeting.
Iain opened the meeting explaining that there were Governance issues, these were duly reported to members prior to the commencement of the AGM, particularly regarding the annual election of Officers in accordance with the “Memorandum and Articles of Association” lodged with Companies House, November 2002.
It was noted that members had not voted annually for office holders for many, many years. Instead, custom and practice has been that directors are elected and then they themselves decide upon role, responsibility and who should become officers of the Club, based on both skills and experience.
This was particularly important as one interpretation of the ‘Articles’ would have been to declare a proposed resolution as invalid and remove it from the agenda. In good faith with members, this had not taken place.
Members agreed to continue with a ‘flawed’ agenda.
Well it was somewhat damp but despite that the event was well attended with over 200 cars. Photos of the event appearing at the top of the Home page will be added to.

The SAAB Owners Club recognises the importance of the Motorsport heritage of the marque and provides sponsorship to those members of the club who are competing in Motorsport at various levels.
SAAB cars have been competing in motorsport since the early days of production. Many successes were achieved through drivers such as Club President, Erik Carlsson. This success continues today through Club competitors.
Club members are competing in, Historic Road Rallies, Historic Stage Rallies, Classic Runs, Sprints, Hillclimbs and many other forms of the sport.

Many new members to the Club ask the same question - “Who is Erik Carlsson?” I suppose a lot of people who were not around in the 60s have never heard of him even though this giant of a man is often referred to as “Mr SAAB”.
Erik was born in 1929 in Trollhattan, Sweden, not far from the SAAB factory, but at that time the factory was only producing aircraft. Erik was 20 when production of the first SAAB cars started. His first passion was motorbikes, he bought a Norton 500 new when he was 18 from Nystrom’s where he was working. Pelle Nystrom was the Norton importer for Sweden. At weekends he took part in hillclimbs, motorcross, road racing and, during the winter, ice track racing.
14 Ebor Saab members set off on Friday 10 May to make their separate ways to the assembly point at Gretna Green for what was billed as a Scottish Mystery Weekend, the mystery being only the organisers knew the itinerary. The mystery began to unfold on Saturday morning with a drive along gloriously empty roads under blue skies up into rural Scotland to visit the Kagyu Samye Ling Tibetan Temple at Eskdalemuir (nobody expected a visit the foothills of the Himalayas).

There is no formal Branch currently in operation (largely as a result of the sheer geographical spread of members across this area) and therefore no regular meetings.
Where possible, there is usually an SOC 'presence' at gatherings across the region organised by other clubs, motor museums or advertised on web forums (principally UKSaabs).
The dates known so far for 2017 at which we aim to be represented are:
