Bernard and I went out this morning to see for ourselves the flood situation in Ironbridge and Shrewsbury. It was quite a sight I have to say.
We also visited The Valley Hotel where we plan to have our gathering this weekend.
The situation is dreadful for those suffering from flooding, the barriers are in place in Ironbridge but the main road through the centre is closed. Obviously there are diversions in place.
The hotel itself occupies a higher area away from the centre of the town. Also the hotel car park slopes towards the garden. Those of you that have stayed at the hotel before will perhaps remember there were a flight of steps then a garden before reaching the river bank. The hotel staff have no doubt our event can go ahead. They suggested guests could telephone the hotel nearer to their date of travel for an update on the situation if they wished. They will constantly be monitoring the situation and are happy to help.
We understand there maybe some who would rather not travel, that of course is your decision. Should this be the case please let the hotel know at your earliest convenience.
Bernard and I will of course be looking forward to welcoming you to Ironbridge.
Travel safe.
